Kodiak Island Surf Forecast map for predicting the best wave and wind conditions across the region. For surfers, the map shows the most powerful swell tracking across near-shore open water and not the peak waves experienced by boats out at sea. Move your mouse over the ocean swell symbols or the surf breaks on the coastline to see a more detailed surf forecast including wave period and wind conditions. The forecast updates every 6 hours and most live weather reports update every hour. You can animate the Kodiak Island Surf map or show live wind and wave conditions as reported from wavebuoys and local weather stations. Surf breaks shown along the Kodiak Island coastline are also listed below.

Kodiak Island Surf Breaks

Kodiak Island is home to most of the readily available breaks within Alaska, although surf is still few and far between either side of the winter months. Although there are several breaks all around the island, most will be found north and south of Kodiak City where the Aleutian islands don't block the swell. A 4WD is needed if you're wanting to go exploring. Flights to Kodiak Island are from Anchorage, there is also a ferry service from Homer further south of anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula. Low daylight and freezing temperatures through October to March are not very welcoming. A winter wettie is need all year round.
