Vancouver Island Surf Forecast map for predicting the best wave and wind conditions across the region. For surfers, the map shows the most powerful swell tracking across near-shore open water and not the peak waves experienced by boats out at sea. Move your mouse over the ocean swell symbols or the surf breaks on the coastline to see a more detailed surf forecast including wave period and wind conditions. The forecast updates every 6 hours and most live weather reports update every hour. You can animate the Vancouver Island Surf map or show live wind and wave conditions as reported from wavebuoys and local weather stations. Surf breaks shown along the Vancouver Island coastline are also listed below.

Vancouver Island Surf Breaks

West coast Vancouver island has some of the sickest surf spots and the views are spectacular! Wave conditions are pretty consistent all year round, there is always a wave to ride. Winter season provides larger swells so put away the longboard and pull out the shorties as you're gonna need to duckdive a lot more, and don't forget your paddle arms and 7mm booties and hoodies. The water is chilly but if you are into catching waves you won't notice ..... Chad Harris

Tofino/Ucluelet (North Island): Wide open long sandy beach breaks. South Island (Jordan River/Sombrio beach): Rocky beach/reef/point breaks. Best time of year (Tofino) is summer if you want to learn to surf, otherwise, autumn/winter to surf big waves. Sombrio is flat in the summer, but big and clean in the fall/winter ..... Keelan Watkins

South Island spots are typically reef breaks. North Island has mainly beach breaks with a number of hidden point breaks that are difficult to access ..... Cole Chappell
