The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up. It's a bit of a slow burner for Anglet, but there's some serious promise lurking in the second week for those with patience.
Right now, the water is roasting. We're talking 77°, which is a massive 8° warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the booties at home for sure.
The immediate forecast is pretty flat, I won't lie. From Tuesday the 14th all the way through to the morning of Saturday the 26th, there’s next to nothing happening. We're talking tiny dribbles, mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds, and weak, short-period slop that's just not worth paddling out for. The combined energy is barely getting into double digits, and the scores are all zeros. It's a solid two-week period of sketchy conditions. There is a brief moment on the morning of Saturday the 18th where it goes glassy, but the swell is a miserable 2 ft, so it's a flat, pretty lake.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. We finally see a pulse of real energy arriving on the morning of Monday, July 27th. La Petite Madrague is a beach/jetty setup, and we’ve got a 4 ft swell coming from the NW with a 10-second period. The combined energy jumps to 318 (moderate), and crucially, we get an offshore wind from the East at 15 km/h. That’s clean. The forecaster flags it as “expect good surf conditions”. It won’t be perfect, as the period isn't super long, but it's the first real option we've had in weeks.
But the real standout is Tuesday, July 28th. The morning is where it’s at. Swell bumps up to 5 ft from the NW, and the period holds at 10 seconds, but the combined energy is now a punchy 562 (strong). The wind is virtually nothing—just 5 km/h from the WNW, giving us glassy conditions. That's the goldilocks window. The 5 ft is enough for a proper session on the jetty, and the "very good surf conditions" tag backs it up. It's a classic dawny. The afternoon gets a bit lumpy with a cross-onshore, so make the most of the morning.
The following morning, Wednesday the 29th, also looks solid with another clean, glassy morning and 5 ft swell. The long-range stuff always comes with a pinch of salt, but those two mornings look like the best bets by a long shot.
So, to be honest, for the next two weeks the only windows that are truly firing are the mornings of Monday the 27th, the absolute standout on Tuesday the 28th, and Wednesday the 29th. Get on it.
