The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk in feet and Fahrenheit, because that’s how we measure things sometimes.
The Praia de Asturias is a sheltered beach and reef break that doesn’t fire often – it’s inconsistent. Water temp feels normal for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Tuesday the 14th kicks off with surfable but ordinary 3-4ft waves from the SSE, period around 10 seconds. Combined energy is moderate (263). Light wind in the morning, but gets messy by afternoon. Wednesday the 15th morning is glassy with 4ft SE swell – that’s clean as a whistle. A great window for a log. Thursday the 16th morning is glassy again with 3-4ft SE swell.
Friday the 17th keeps 3ft ESE swell with clean cross-off morning wind, but afternoon gets blown out with 12 mph onshore. Saturday the 18th is barely 2ft and fading. From Sunday the 19th through Wednesday the 22nd it’s essentially flat – energy numbers in the 20s and 50s, you’re not catching anything worth the paddle.
Thursday the 23rd morning shows a 5ft S swell, but it’s short-period at 8 seconds, so it’ll be lumpy. Combined energy is 369 – moderate but not pretty. Still, clean wind. Friday the 24th is glassy with 3ft SSE – small but clean.
The one to circle is Saturday the 25th morning. That’s a 5-6ft E swell, glassy conditions, and combined energy hitting 536 – that’s proper. The swell direction matches the break’s sweet spot. It’s a Saturday, so expect a few people out, but this is the best the whole two weeks have to offer. After that, Sunday the 26th drops to 2ft and the rest of the run is tiny and ordinary.
So, a slow start, some clean small days midweek, and then the big one on Saturday the 25th morning. Don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
