Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into what’s cooking for the Asturias stretch over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, things are pretty flat. We’re looking at a real slow start with a few days of small, ordinary surf. The first real chance of anything decent rolls in on Sunday, the 5th of July, but that’s a marginal call. We’ve got a 4 ft swell from the south with a moderate 11-second period, and while the water is sitting at 71°, a touch warmer than normal, the energy is moderate (441) and the conditions are just okay. The wind is light and the break is sheltered, so it’s not a total write-off, but it’s not worth paddling out for.
The next few days, Monday the 6th through to Friday the 10th, stay small and weak. Really, you’re looking at waves around 1 ft to 3 ft, with the swell energy dropping into the weak range. There are some glassy windows – Monday morning, Wednesday morning, and Friday morning all have killer conditions with zero wind, but the swell is just too small to get excited about. It’s more of a longboard or duck-dive practice session.
Now, the real story starts to build into the second week. We’ve got a bit of a gap leading up to it, but then Tuesday the 14th of July shows some promise. The morning brings a solid 5 ft south swell, period around 11 seconds, and the energy jumps up to a strong 611. The wind is offshore from the northwest, so it’s going to be clean. This is a moderate-sized swell, okay for most, but if you’re a beginner, it might be pushing your limits.
The true standout of the whole forecast is the morning of Wednesday the 15th of July. Get ready for this. The swell pulses to 6 ft from the SSE, with a long 13-second period, and the combined energy is a very strong 1230. The wind is light and cross-off from the west, so the waves will be clean and well-shaped. That long period means these are groundswells, with plenty of power and long lulls between sets. This is a spot for experienced surfers, as that size is getting up there. The water is still that touch warmer than average, which is a bonus.
The morning of Thursday the 16th of July is almost as good. We’ve got 6 ft from the SSE, still a long 13-second period, and very strong energy at 1074. The wind is glassy from the northwest. Absolutely perfect conditions for a solid session. Friday the 17th of July morning is also a good call, with 4 ft and glassy conditions, but the swell is starting to drop.
After that, the swell fades again through the weekend and into the following week, with small, glassy mornings but nothing to write home about. The 20th of July has a tiny pulse, but it’s not going to save the run.
So, to sum it up: the first week is mostly a write-off. The best bet is to sit tight and aim for the window from the morning of Wednesday the 15th through to the morning of Friday the 17th of July. Those are the days to clear your schedule. The morning of the 15th is the pick of the bunch.
Rusty.
