Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Praia de Asturias over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a quiet stretch ahead. The waves are going to be small for the most part, and while there are a few windows where things clean up, we’re not looking at any proper pumping days. The surf is inconsistent here, so that’s not a huge surprise. The first real chance to get a wet suit on starts on Wednesday, 8th July.
Wednesday morning, 8th July, is where it begins. The swell is tiny, around 3ft from the SE, but the wind is dead calm – glassy as can be. The energy is weak (171), so it’s not going to be powerful, but for a beginner-friendly spot like this, it’ll be a nice, clean session. The water temp is about what you’d expect for the time of year, so nothing wild there.
Thursday morning, 9th July, offers similar vibes. A little 2ft S swell with a period of 11 seconds, giving it a bit more shape. The wind is glass again, and the energy is moderate (243). That’s a bright spot – the best you’ll see this week. Small, clean, and fun if you’re not chasing size.
The weekend sees a bit of a pulse. Saturday morning, 11th July, has 3ft SE swell, glassy conditions, and moderate energy (304). The period is 13 seconds, which is a nice long groundswell, but that kind of period can make beach breaks a bit straight. Still, it’s the best of the bunch. Sunday morning, 12th July, is also clean but smaller at 2ft.
Then we hit a bit of a gap. Monday, 13th July, sees a jump in size – 4ft on the morning, and 6ft by the afternoon – but the wind is messy and the conditions are poor. The energy spikes to 1807 in the afternoon, which is strong, but that’s a cross-shore mess with rain. Not worth paddling out for.
The second week is more of the same: small, glassy mornings with very ordinary waves. Wednesday morning, 15th July, gives you 3ft from the SSE with glassy wind and moderate energy (189). Saturday morning, 18th July, has 3ft SE swell, but the wind is cross-on, so it’s a bit choppy. The standout there is the morning of Sunday, 19th July – 3ft SE, glassy, moderate energy (231). That’s your best bet in the second week, but it’s still on the small side.
If I had to call it, the best on offer is Saturday morning, 11th July. The combo of glassy wind, a touch more size, and that long-period groundswell makes it the pick of the bunch, even if it’s not huge. If you’re out there, enjoy the clean lines.
This is Rusty, signing off.
