Alright, Rusty here. Let’s see what’s in store for Balneario Novo Quintao.
First up, the water’s running at 58°F which is a good 4°F colder than usual for this time of year. That’s well below average, so you’ll want a good thick steamer.
The next few days are pretty quiet. There’s a small window Monday morning (July 6th) with a 4ft SE swell and a nice offshore wind from the W at 9 mph. The wave energy is moderate (301), and it’ll be clean. It’s not big, but it’s the cleanest surf we’ll see for a bit. The afternoon is similar with a 3ft SE swell and offshore wind. The wind turns moderate offshore on Tuesday morning (July 7th) with 2ft ESE swell, but the energy drops (140) and the waves are just ordinary.
We’ve got a long gap of really poor or marginal conditions from Wednesday (July 8th) through to Saturday (July 11th) morning. The mid-period SE swell gets a little push on the 11th (3ft, 13 seconds, energy 625), but the wind is cross-on from the NE, making it choppy. After that, Saturday afternoon and Sunday (July 12th) are a write-off with onshore winds.
Sunday afternoon (July 12th) does see a glassy moment with a 3ft SSE swell (energy 479) and glassy conditions, which is a surprise. That’s a decent little window for a clean, small wave session.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The real standout kicks off on Tuesday, July 14th. A solid 8ft SE groundswell (12 seconds) rolls in, with massive wave energy (2044) and a strong cross-offshore wind. This is expert territory – definitely too big for beginners. The wind is strong, but it’s clean. Wednesday, July 15th is the best of the whole run. The swell holds at 8ft to 8ft from the SE, period stretching to 13 seconds, and the energy is massive (1778-1975). The wind is offshore (W/WSW) at 12 mph. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers. Expect clean, powerful waves. The swell direction (SE) matches the optimum for the break, so it’ll be well lined up. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so expect company if the word gets out. Thursday morning (July 16th) still has a 7ft SE swell, 13 seconds, and offshore wind (3 mph), with excellent conditions. That’s your late-morning session.
The energy drops after that, and the wind goes onshore and cross-on through the 17th and 18th, with a small, clean glassy window on Saturday afternoon (July 18th) with 3ft SE swell. The last few days of the outlook (July 19th-20th) are messy with onshore winds and short-period windswell.
Overall, the best bets are Sunday afternoon (July 12th) for a glassy, small wave, and the three-day window from Tuesday morning (July 14th) through Thursday morning (July 16th) for the experts. The 15th is the pick of the lot.
Rusty.
