Table - best surf conditions forecast for Balneario Novo Quintao over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Balneario Novo Quintao over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty bleak run for this spot. The first week is mostly a write-off, with a few small windows where it might be worth a paddle if you’re desperate, but nothing that’ll get your heart racing. The water is much colder than normal for this time of year at 58°F, so you’ll want a decent wetsuit. The swell energy is moderate (148) to start with, but the wind is all over the place.
The best chance to get wet comes in the middle of the first week. Wednesday the 8th of July is the only day that looks half-decent, with glassy conditions and a small 2ft swell from the south, though the period is a short 10 seconds. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. That’s about as good as it gets early on.
Thursday the 9th is a total dud with poor surf and cross-onshore winds. Friday the 10th cleans up a bit with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is still small (3ft to 4ft) and the energy is moderate (226 to 367). Marginal at best. Saturday the 11th sees a big jump in swell energy (1227 to 1298) with 4ft waves, but it’s blown out by a strong onshore wind. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle board session.
The rest of the first week and into the second week is a dusty stretch. Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th are all poor conditions, with onshore or cross-onshore winds and small, weak swell. The only real standout is Monday the 13th in the afternoon – a clean 3ft swell from the SE with a cross-offshore breeze. Finally, something that might actually be fun for a longboard or a mini-mal. The energy is moderate (200) and the period is a short 9 seconds, so it’s not going to be punchy, but it’s clean.
From Wednesday the 15th onwards, the forecast is a long run of poor surf. The swell picks up a bit towards the end of the window (up to 5ft on the 21st), but the wind is persistently cross-onshore, making it lumpy and messy. There’s no real quality on offer. The combined energy figures are moderate (ranging from 83 to 366) but the wind ruins it every time. Most of the days are labelled as poor surf conditions, and the only other day with a marginal nod is Wednesday the 22nd of July, but that’s got onshore wind and a short period swell.
So, to sum it up: if you’re desperate for a paddle, Monday the 13th afternoon is your best bet for a clean, small wave. Wednesday the 8th is also a glassy option, but tiny. For the rest of it, I’d find something else to do. The setup is looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on those windy days. Keep an eye on the forecast, but for now, don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
