Table - best surf conditions forecast for Balneario Sao Jose over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. The next couple of weeks here have a bit of a slow start, but some sweet glassy windows pop up if you’re willing to pick your moments.
For the first few days, it’s a bit of a write-off. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are pretty messy with light rain and onshore wind making for poor conditions. Not worth paddling out. But things start to turn from Tuesday morning, July 14th.
Tuesday the 14th, Balneario Sao Jose wakes up to clear skies and glassy conditions early – wind is from the WSW at 3 mph, basically a slight air. Swell is 4 ft coming out of the S with a period of 11 seconds, giving it some decent shape for a beach/pier setup. The combined energy is moderate, clocking in at 427. The water temp is around 67°, which is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. The morning session is the pick of the day.
Wednesday the 15th is where it starts to get good. Early morning glass again, wind from the NNE at 3 mph. Swell pushes up to 5 ft from the SE, period at 11 seconds, and the energy builds to 682. That’s a proper window of clean, surfable waves. The afternoon goes a little cross-onshore, so get on it early.
Thursday the 16th morning mirrors Wednesday – glassy, NNW wind at 3 mph, swell 5 ft from the ESE with that same 11-second period, energy at 662. This is another standout morning. The wave quality is there.
Friday the 17th still offers a decent shot. Morning has offshore wind from the N at 6 mph, swell drops a touch to 3 ft from the SE but with that long 11-second period keeping things clean. Energy is 326. Good for a longer board session.
From Saturday the 18th into the middle of the following week, the swell dips significantly. Smaller waves in the 2 ft range, mostly clean but very ordinary. Not much to write home about, though Sunday the 19th afternoon bumps up to 4 ft from the E with clean conditions – could be a fun session if you’re not fussy.
There’s then a real lull from about Tuesday the 21st through to Friday the 24th. Waves drop below 2 ft most of the time, energy in the 40s and 50s. Hardly worth wetting a wetsuit.
Now, looking a bit further out, Saturday the 25th brings a new pulse – 6 ft from the SSE but with a cross-onshore wind from the SW at 6 mph, making it a bit lumpy. Energy climbs to 523. Sunday the 26th morning gets bigger at 7 ft from the SSE, period 12 seconds, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore at 15 mph, making it choppy and messy – energy jumps to 1204. That’s more of a wind-swell day, not ideal for a clean paddle session.
Towards the end of the period, Monday the 27th shows some serious energy – 8 ft from the SSE, period up at 17 seconds (very long period groundswell), combined energy roaring at 3026. But again, cross-onshore wind from the ESE at 12 mph spoils it. The beach/pier setup with that much energy and wind might actually be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. This one’s likely only for experts if anyone bothers, and with that onshore wind, it won’t be pretty.
Overall standouts: Wednesday morning, July 15th and Thursday morning, July 16th are the clear winners – both glassy, clean, with 5 ft to 5 ft SE swell and long periods. Get out there early those days.
Rusty.
