Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here, checking in with a look at what the next couple of weeks have in store for us on this stretch of coast. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s break it down.
We’ve got some decent pulses of energy rolling in, but the wind is going to be the one thing that really makes or breaks your session. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is about average for this time of year, so you won’t need the thickest wetsuit, but a spring suit is still the smart call.
First up, Monday the 6th of July is our window to get wet. Balneario Sao Jose (Balneario-Sao-Jose) is our spot, and early doors is the move. We’ve got a clean 4ft S swell with 11-second period, and the wind is glassy from the ENE at 3 mph. That’s going to produce some really clean lines. The combined energy is sitting at 461 (moderate), so there’s enough push in the water to have fun. The morning is where it’s at, but keep an eye out – the crowds can be a factor here as it’s fairly consistent, so get in early if you want a pick of the peaks. The cross-on wind kicks in for the afternoon, so that window closes.
Tuesday and Wednesday the 7th and 8th are pretty low-key. The swell drops off a bit, and the wind gets messy. Wednesday morning the 8th has a brief window of glassy conditions and 3ft S swell, but the energy is a bit weaker at 278 (moderate). It’s surfable, nothing special.
Thursday the 9th is worth a mention. We’ve got another glassy morning with a 3ft S swell, but the period is a nice 11 seconds and the energy is a solid 300 (moderate). It’ll be clean but smaller. The real story starts to build for the weekend.
Saturday the 11th of July is the standout of the whole period. The morning session is where you want to be. We’ve got a 4ft SE swell with a 13-second period, pushing a combined energy of 504 (strong). The wind is glassy from the NNE at 3 mph. That is a recipe for some proper long, clean walls. The swell direction (SE) isn't perfect for the break's optimum (SE), but it is a match, so it'll work nicely. This is the one to circle on your calendar. It's not too big, not too small, and clean as a whistle. The afternoon gets a bit of a cross-on breeze so it’s off a touch, but the morning is pure gold.
Into the second week, Monday the 13th of July throws a bigger pulse our way with 6ft S swell and 13-second period. That’s moderate energy at 1445 (strong), but the cross-on wind from the S at 9 mph will chop it up. That’s more of a kite-surfing day if you ask me. The swell’s got power, but the surface will be messy.
Tuesday the 14th has a glassy morning with 4ft SSE swell, which is a nice reset after the wind. It fades out from there. The 15th of July has some glass and a tiny 4ft ESE swell, but the period is a weak 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly.
After that, the swell fades right down. From the 17th through to the 20th July, the energy drops into the double digits (as low as 50), with tiny waves. There’s a long gap with nothing really on offer until finally, on Tuesday the 21st of July, there’s a bit of a pulse again. A 3ft S swell with a 14-second period and glassy morning wind shows up, with combined energy at 340 (moderate). It’s promising but that’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it.
So, bottom line: don’t waste your energy on the in-between days. Get on it Monday the 6th for a clean, fun session, and do not miss Saturday the 11th of July. That’s your day.
Rusty.
