Table - best surf conditions forecast for Praia da Boraceia over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming up at Praia da Boraceia. The first week is all about small, clean windows, but nothing to write home about. The real standout is a solid pulse of swell right at the end of the second week. Let’s break it down.
We start off on Sunday, the 12th of July, with a small, clean 0.8m SE swell rolling in. The wind is offshore from the NNW at 9 mph, and it’s glassy. The wave energy is moderate (253). It’s a beginner-friendly wave, but it’s not going to blow your mind. The water temp is 68°, which is bang on average for this time of year. Crowds are possible here, so keep an eye out.
Sunday afternoon sees the wind shift to a light cross-onshore, and the swell drops a touch. It’s not worth paddling out. Monday the 13th picks up a bit with 5 ft of short-period S swell (9 seconds), but the wind is cross-onshore and it’s raining. It’s a messy, marginal call. The wave energy jumps to moderate-high (455), but it’s not clean.
Tuesday the 14th is a better bet. Morning offers 5 ft of SSE swell with zero wind – glassy conditions. The energy is moderate (457). It’s clean, but the swell is still a bit short-period. Afternoon gets a bit tricky as the wind goes onshore. Wednesday the 15th is similar: 5 ft SE swell, glassy morning, clean, but the period is still short. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are clean in the mornings with offshore winds, with Friday’s ESE swell stretching out to a 12-second period. That’s a nice, long-period groundswell. The energy is strong (478) on Friday morning. It’s a good call for a paddle, but it’s still only 4 ft – a fun, clean day.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th sees the swell drop back to under 3 ft. The wind is offshore, but the wave energy is weak (218 and even down to 72). It’s surfable, but pretty ordinary. Then we hit a dry spell from Monday the 20th through to Tuesday the 22nd. Swell is tiny, under 2 ft, and the energy is weak. It’s a quiet period with no real recommendations.
Now, here’s the one to circle. Wednesday the 23rd of July. A proper pulse arrives. The morning has 4 ft of S swell, but the period is 14 seconds – that’s very long-period groundswell. The combined energy hits 729, which is strong. The wind is offshore from the NNW at 9 mph, and it’s clean. This is the best on offer. That long period will mean excellent shape and power, but at a beach break like this, it might break a bit straight. Still, it’s the standout. The afternoon stays glassy with a 4 ft swell.
The last few days of the month (24th to 27th) fade back into small, weak conditions. There’s a hint of glassy surf on the 25th, but it’s really only 2 ft with weak energy. After that, it’s flat.
So, overall, the pick is Wednesday the 23rd of July. A strong, clean, long-period south swell with offshore winds. That’s the one you want to be out for. The rest is a lot of waiting.
Rusty.
