The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Praia da Boraceia over the next couple of weeks.

First up, the water's sitting at about 69°, which is pretty much bang on for this time of year – nothing unusual there.

Honestly, the immediate outlook is a bit of a struggle. We've got a few days of small, messy, or just plain poor surf from Friday the 24th right through until the end of the month. The wind is a problem, and the swell is weak and short period. It's not looking like it's worth paddling out for.

Things start to get interesting on Sunday the 26th of July. It's not big, only about 2ft, but it's a long period groundswell from the south at 14 seconds, and the morning is dead glassy. The combined wave energy is a moderate 317, which is the best we've seen. That long period swell will wrap in nicely, and with zero wind, it'll be clean as a whistle. This is the pick of the first week for sure – a real quiet, glassy session.

After that, it drops right back off. We're looking at tiny, weak surf from the 28th through to the 1st of August. Most days have combined energy under 100, with waves barely breaking. It's a real flat spell.

Now, looking further ahead, the 3rd of August (Monday) shows some real promise. There's a nice 3ft south swell, but the period is a very long 15 seconds, giving us a combined energy of 340. The morning is glassy again. That's a proper groundswell, and it'll be clean. It'll be best on the points and reefs for that kind of energy, but it's a definite standout for the second week.

The morning of the 4th of August (Tuesday) also looks good, with a 3ft south swell, glassy conditions, and a combined energy of 283. It's a similar story, but the swell is a touch bigger. That's another solid option.

So, the best on offer is the glassy, long-period south swell on Sunday the 26th of July, and then again on the morning of Monday the 3rd of August. The rest of the time, it's a waiting game. Don't expect much size, but the quality will be there for those two windows.

Signing off, Rusty.
