G’day, Rusty here, lookin’ straight at the charts for Praia da Boraceia. Honestly, for a solid week and a bit, it’s mostly small and average, but there’s one morning that’s got me properly excited if you can wait.
The first decent surf kicks off Monday morning, July 6th. Praia da Boraceia picks up a S’ly swell at 4 ft, with a nice 11-second period and the wind glassy from the ESE at just 3 mph. Water temp is sittin’ at 71°, about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s pleasant. The combined energy is moderate at 591. It’s an exposed beach, and that morning’s conditions are clean, mellow, and beginner-friendly.
Now, Monday afternoon drops off a bit – same spot, still a S’ly swell at 4 ft, period holds at 11 seconds, but wind stays light onshore. It’s not the same quality.
Tuesday, July 7th, is pretty ordinary: smaller, mixed up wind, rain in the afternoon. Cross-shore winds and dropping energy – not one for the quiver.
Wednesday, July 8th, Thursday, July 9th – they both have small, glassy mornings with S and SE swells around 3 to 3 ft. Clean conditions but tiny. Fine for a longboard or a beginner, nothing to hype.
Here’s the standout – Saturday morning, July 11th. Praia da Boraceia sees a SE groundswell of 4 ft, period at a meaty 13 seconds, and winds glassy from the north at 3 mph. The combined energy jumps to a solid moderate 415. The swell direction lines up nicely with the optimum SSE. That longer-period groundswell will wrap in with shape and power, but at a beach break it might throw some closeouts – still, the clean, glassy surface makes it the pick of the 16 days.
Sunday July 12th fades a bit, and then Monday July 13th brings a bigger SSE swell of 6 ft, period at 13 seconds, but onshore wind from the south at 9 mph messes it up. Combined energy is strong at 1153 – there’s plenty of water moving, but the chop kills it for a paddle surfer. That’s more of a kite day.
Tuesday July 14th morning is a secret gem: glassy calm, a clean 4 ft SSE swell, period 12 seconds, energy at 496. It’s smaller than the Monday, but the dead-calm wind makes it so much more rideable.
After that, from Wednesday July 15th onward, it’s all downhill – tiny waves dropping below 3 ft, energy falling under 300, and by the weekend of July 18th, there’s basically nothing. You’ll see a little bump on July 21st with a 3 ft S swell, period 14 seconds, glassy morning – but that’s late in the window and a long wait.
The only true standout is Saturday morning July 11th – clean, glassy, moderate power, and the biggest well-shaped swell of the whole run before the bigger but wind-affected stuff rolls in. If you’re a beginner, Monday July 6th morning is your safe bet. For the rest, it’s mostly a flat spell with a couple of clean but small windows.
Rusty out.
