Praia da Boraceia Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here with the long-range look at what’s happening at Praia da Boraceia. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, with a few windows of clean surf to get excited about.

The patch starts off alright but nothing mind-blowing. Wednesday morning on the 2nd of September has a small, clean 4 ft swell out of the south at 8 seconds. The water is sitting at 72°, a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit. That morning is glassy, but don't get too attached to it because the afternoon turns onshore and clunky. Thursday the 3rd morning is the real bright spot early on with a 5 ft SSE swell building in (11 seconds period) and glassy conditions. The combined swell energy is moderate (569), and that low-period windswell will have a bit of shape. It's a solid beginner-friendly wave with clean faces.

Friday the 4th morning still has some clean, smaller 3 ft waves from the SSE, but then it goes downhill. From Saturday the 5th into Sunday the 6th, we see a real slump with rain and cross-onshore winds making a mess of things. That stretch has barely any energy, with the combined energy dropping to just 83 on the Saturday afternoon.

Monday the 7th perks up again with a bigger 6 ft swell from the south, but it's accompanied by light rain and onshore wind, so the quality is poor and pretty average in the water. The combined energy is strong (624 to 702), but it's bumpy. That bigger size around 6 to 6 ft is teetering on getting too much for beginners given the conditions.

By Tuesday the 8th afternoon, we get a reprieve with light easterly winds turning glassy, and a 4 ft S swell with 10-second period. Clean, but very average in size. The real standout for the whole forecast might actually be Wednesday the 9th morning. It is dead calm (0 mph wind), glassy as a mirror, with a 4 ft ESE swell and combined energy of 239. It’s a clean slate, perfect for a morning paddle.

Thursday the 10th morning is also glassy with a similar 4 ft swell. Thereafter, the quality drops again through the 11th and 12th with poor, crummy cross-onshore conditions and tiny waves.

Then, a sneaky little highlight comes on Sunday the 13th. It's glassy, with a long-period 15-second groundswell from the south. The swell is tiny at 2 to 3 ft, but that very long period (over 15 seconds) means it will be super clean, lined up, and have some surprising push for its size—great for logging or a longboard. The combined energy is moderate (216 to 464).

We end the run with cleaner but inconsistent surf. Monday the 14th morning has glassy 6 ft SSE swell, but it's short period. Tuesday the 15th afternoon is glassy with a 3 ft S swell at 11 seconds. The very last call is Thursday the 17th morning, with a pumping 5 ft S swell and a wild 16-second period (combined energy of 1079!). That’s a massive amount of energy for the size, but it comes with onshore rain and light wind. For experts only—that long period will jack up fast and punchy on the inside. It’s a big swell but dirty.

Overall, there's no massive, perfect stand-out day, but Thursday the 3rd morning and Wednesday the 9th morning are your best bets for clean, fun waves. The long-period glassy session on Sunday the 13th is a solid sleeper pick for anyone who likes smooth, peeling lines.
