Praia da Boraceia Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, this is Rusty, bringing you the long-range look at what's on offer for our stretch of coast. We've been looking at Praia da Boraceia, and if I'm being honest, the next few days are a bit of a grind. We’ve got a solid run of swell coming through, but the wind is going to be a menace for a lot of it. The real beauty is tucked away mid-week.

The First Few Days: Patience is a Virtue

From Sunday the 9th through to Tuesday the 11th, it’s a case of "what could have been." There's a solid amount of energy in the water, with the combined swell energy sitting around 624 to 1085 (moderate to strong), but it’s all wind-affected. Onshore and cross-shore breezes are messing it up, making it choppy and sectiony. Not worth paddling out. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so you won't need the thickest rubber.

The Glimmer of Hope: Wednesday the 12th to Thursday the 13th

Now, Wednesday morning, the 12th, is where it gets interesting. The wind drops to nothing. We’re talking glassy conditions. The swell is still a clean 6 ft from the SSE (combined energy 845), and with that 12-second period, it’s going to have some real push. This is a genuine standout for the period. The wave comment says "expect very good surf conditions," and I’d agree. Surf’s up, clean, and with a bit of grunt. Thursday morning the 13th keeps that glassy goodness, with a slightly smaller 4 ft swell from the S, but the period is still a solid 12 seconds. This is the best window we’ve got. Keep in mind though, this is an exposed beach, so it can get a little fat on the low tide, but the conditions are too good to ignore.

A Rough Patch: Friday the 14th to Saturday the 15th

The wind swings back onshore Friday and Saturday, and the quality drops off fast. The energy is still there, but the surface is choppy again. Best to sit these out.

A Surprise for the Experienced: Sunday the 16th

Come Sunday the 16th, the pattern shifts. We get a completely different swell. Early morning, we’ve got a 7 ft swell from the E, but the period is a short 8 seconds. This is a lot of water moving around, but it’s gonna be a bit jumbled and a bit too big for anyone not on their game. The conditions are glassy, so the wave face will be clean, but it's going to be a heavy, pitching beach break. For the experts, this is a fun session. For everyone else, it’s a spectator sport.

The Second Week: Smaller and Quieter

The action drops off after that. From Monday the 17th, we’re looking at smaller stuff, mostly 3 ft to 4 ft, with some clean glassy windows on the mornings of the 17th, 18th, and 19th. The period drops to 8-9 seconds, so it’s going to be a messy, short-period windswell. The real highlight in the second week is Monday the 24th. We get a 5 ft swell from the ESE, clean offshore wind from the N, and a 6-second period. It’s a short period, but the offshores will make it clean and fun for a beginner-friendly wave.

So, if you're looking for the best, aim for Wednesday the 12th and Thursday the 13th. That’s pure gold. The Sunday the 16th is a beast for the brave. The rest is a waiting game.
