The Lowdown

G'day, I'm Rusty, and I've been staring at the charts for Praia da Boraceia. It's a bit of a slow start, but there's some serious potential brewing later on, so let's break it down.

For the first couple of days, it's pretty ordinary. Friday the 21st is a write-off with weak swell and messy winds – not worth paddling out for. Saturday the 22nd morning, though, we finally get a pulse. A clean 3ft S swell (11 seconds) rolling in with glassy conditions. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild to report. The combined energy is moderate (525), and while the sets will have some space between them with that period, it'll be clean. The crowd factor here is *sometimes*, so you might have company. That Saturday morning window is the first real highlight, but watch out – beginners might find 3ft a bit much.

Sunday the 23rd morning keeps the quality up with 2ft S swell, glassy from a super light wind, and decent energy (314). After that, we hit a bit of a lull in the quality, but the real standouts start rolling in mid-week. Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th see a big jump in size, with the swell coming from the S at 3ft to 4ft and a long 14-second period. The combined energy is strong (1534 on Monday morning, 1502 on Tuesday morning). This is expert territory – over 4ft on Tuesday morning? It's big, powerful, and for experienced surfers only. Tuesday morning especially sees glassy offshore winds (SSW 3 mph) making for excellent, clean conditions. This is the best on offer – a true standout for the hardcore crew.

Wednesday the 26th morning is another belter for the pros: a very long 16-second period from the SSE at 3ft with zero wind. That's groundswell gold, with massive energy (1580). It might be a bit straight for a beach break, but the quality is undeniable. After that, things clean up and drop off through the end of August and into September. Thursday the 3rd of September morning offers another promising window with a clean 3ft SSE swell (11 seconds) and glassy conditions (769 energy), but it’s far out, so keep an eye on it.

There’s a real gap in quality between the end of August and that start of September tease. For the most part, the consistent swell and good winds align for a solid run from the 22nd through the 26th. It tends not to stay flat here for long, so that mid-week window is your best bet. Saturday the 22nd morning and Tuesday the 25th morning are the pick of the bunch. Get on it.
