The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty. Let's talk about what's on the menu for Praia de Camburi over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty grim stretch for the most part. We’re looking at a long, flat spell that’s going to test your patience. The first wave of any real note doesn't show up until the very end of the month, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about. There’s a big gap of days with just tiny, weak energy that won't get you out of bed.

The best chance we get is right at the start, on Monday morning, July 20th. It’s not pumping, but it’s the best we’ve got. We’re looking at a small easterly swell, averaging about 4 ft, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is moderate at 164. The real winner here is the wind—it’s dead glassy, with a light NNW breeze. That’s going to make the surface look like a mirror. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is pretty average for this time of year. It’s a beginner-friendly break, sheltered from the south, and the NE offshore wind is the ideal direction for it. Be aware, crowds are sometimes a thing here, so don’t expect to have it all to yourself.

That Monday morning is the standout. After that, it’s a slow fade. The rest of the week and the following week are mostly filled with "poor surf conditions" in the guidance. The swell drops to a tiny 0.3 ft to 3 ft, and the energy ratings are weak, often in the double digits. There’s a lot of fresh offshore wind, which keeps it clean, but there’s just no wave to ride. The afternoon of Tuesday the 22nd is a perfect example: a tiny 0.3 ft swell with a 13-second period, but the energy is a paltry 2. It’s like waiting for a puddle to ripple.

We don’t see any real return until the first day of August. Saturday, August 1st, offers a slight bump with a 3 ft to 3 ft SSE swell, and the combined energy climbs back into the triple digits (152 in the afternoon). The wind is moderate offshore from the NE, which will keep things clean. It’s still small, but it’s the most promising thing in the second week. The Monday morning after that, August 2nd, has a similar 4 ft ESE swell, but the period is only 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit weak and crumbly.

The long and short of it is: if you’re desperate for a paddle, hit that Monday morning glass-off. Otherwise, wait for the first week of August. The forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a waiting game.

Rusty.
