Praia de Camburi Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.

To be honest, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a frustrating watch for Praia de Camburi. The pattern is pretty flat and weak for a long stretch, and it’s not until we get deep into the second week that things start to wake up. The water temp is sitting at 74°, bang on average for this time of year, so at least you won’t be freezing while you’re sitting there waiting.

We kick off on Saturday 25 July, and honestly, there’s nothing doing. The swell is tiny, only 2ft, from the east with a short period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 90. The morning is glassy, but with no wave to push around, it’s a flat morning. Afternoon drops even smaller. Sunday 26 July stays small and messy, with onshore winds making it a write-off. This sort of dead run carries right through the rest of July and into the first few days of August. From Monday 27 July right through to Tuesday 4 August, the swell barely scrapes past 2ft, with periods that are all over the place, and no real energy. There are plenty of mornings with clean offshore winds, but the ocean just isn’t cooperating. It’s a long gap of nearly a week and a half with nothing worth paddling out for.

Then, finally, around Wednesday 5 August, we see a pulse. The swell bumps up to 6ft from the ESE with a 10 second period, and the combined energy jumps to 587 – that’s moderate energy, finally. The wind is offshore in the afternoon, so it’s clean. But the comments say it’s marginal, so don’t expect perfection. It’s a start.

The real standout, the only one I’d get excited about, is Thursday 6 August. That afternoon, the swell hits 7ft from the east, period at 9 seconds, and the combined energy rockets up to 1174 – that’s strong wave energy. The wind is offshore from the ENE, giving you moderate offshore and clean conditions. That’s a proper session for experienced surfers. At 7ft, it’s pushing into the territory where beginners should sit it out, but for the rest of us, that’s the best day on offer by a long shot. The swell direction is east, which is a bit off the optimum south for this sheltered spot, but with that much energy and clean wind, it’s still going to be the pick.

After that, Friday 7 August through to Sunday 9 August settles back into surfable but ordinary conditions. Swell drops back to 4ft to 5ft, same east direction, and still offshore winds, but the energy drops and the periods shorten. It’s not bad, just not as good as that Thursday.

So, to sum it up: a long, flat wait, then one cracking Thursday afternoon on 6 August. That’s your window.
