The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
We’re looking at a pretty quiet start for Praia de Camburi, with a long stretch of flat or very small surf. The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t show up until Tuesday morning, the 25th. Even then it’s only 3ft from the SSE with a long 14-second period and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate (282), but it’s really just a taste. The real standout of the whole forecast lands on Sunday morning, the 6th of September. That’s the one to circle on the calendar. We’re looking at a solid 8ft SSE swell with a 10-second period and clean offshore winds from the NNE. The combined energy is a massive 1519, pushing strong to very strong, and the water is sitting at a normal 72° for this time of year. That morning is the best on offer, but keep in mind that size is for experts only—over 8ft, it’s a big boy’s game. The wind is light and glassy, so it’ll be clean. Also, that swell is long-period, so it’ll be a bit more lined up and better for a point or reef, but for a sheltered beach break like this, it should still hold. The spot is fairly consistent but can get crowded sometimes, so don’t expect to have it to yourself.
Tuesday afternoon the 25th also looks good with 3ft from the SSE and a moderate offshore NE wind at 12 mph, with energy at 494. Wednesday afternoon the 26th bumps up to 3ft SSE with a very long 16-second period and offshore ENE wind, energy 539. Thursday afternoon the 27th sees the swell climb to 4ft from the SSE, period 14 seconds, and a moderate offshore breeze, energy 647. Those are all solid, clean windows. By the end of the first week of September, the wind turns onshore and the swell gets short and messy, so it’s best to focus on that late-August to early-September window.
The second week, from the 28th onward, the surf drops off fast. There’s a brief window of clean wind on the 28th and 29th, but the swell is tiny—1ft or less—and the wind is strong, making it hard to paddle into. There’s a potential for a big, clean swell on the morning of the 6th, but it’s a long way out, so don’t bank on it just yet. Overall, the best call is to wait for the 25th and keep an eye on that Sunday the 6th.
Rusty out.
