The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what Praia de Camburi has on offer over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet run ahead of us. The surf is going to be marginal for long stretches, so don’t get your hopes up for any classic sessions. The best we’ve got are a few fleeting windows where it might just be worth a paddle.
The wait starts now. There’s really nothing to shout about for the first few days. Thursday the 13th has a small 3ft SSE swell rolling in with a reasonable 13-second period, and the morning has some clean conditions with a cross-off breeze, but the combined energy is weak (273). It’s surfable, just not very inspiring. The afternoon gets a bit messier with stronger wind.
Friday the 14th is a write-off with onshore winds and choppy water, and the swell is still small at around 3ft to 3ft. Saturday the 15th shows a little more potential. The morning has light cross-onshore winds which are not ideal, but the swell builds to 4ft from the SSE with a 14-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a moderate 627. It’s still a marginal call due to the wind. By Saturday afternoon, the wind swings to a light cross-off, and the waves drop to 3ft, but the quality improves—definitely the better half of the weekend if you’re keen.
Now, the standout in the entire forecast comes up on Sunday morning, the 16th of August. We get a 6ft ESE swell, which is a bit raw at a short 7-second period, but the wind is offshore from the NE at only 3 mph. That’s glassy conditions. The combined energy is a strong 688. For a beginner-friendly spot that’s sheltered from the south, this is the cleanest, most energetic window we see. It’s about as good as it gets for Camburi this week, but beginners should note that 6ft could be a little punchy. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so you might have some company.
Monday the 17th morning keeps the offshore flow with a similar 5ft ESE swell, clean and rideable, but again the period is short at 7 seconds, so the waves won't be the most shapely. The energy remains moderate at 547.
From there, it trails off. Tuesday through to the end of the month is mostly a mix of onshore winds, weak energy, and small swell. There are a few afternoons with clean offshore winds, like the 18th and 25th, but the wave heights drop below 2ft and the combined energy is barely a whisper (in the 80s or less). Not worth a trip. The second week is particularly flat—don't bother.
So, bottom line: keep your eyes on Sunday morning the 16th. That’s the one to aim for. It won't be epic, but it’ll be the cleanest and most fun you'll get from this outlook. The rest is mostly a waiting game.
Rusty.
