The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Praia de Camburi over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the outlook is a bit of a slow burn. We're looking at a long stretch of flat to tiny, poor-condition surf, especially through the first week. The energy is just not there. The water temp is sitting at about 73°F, which is pretty much what you'd expect for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real glimmer of something worthwhile doesn't show up until Tuesday the 25th of August. That morning, the wind goes glassy and we get a pulse of 3ft swell from the SSE, with a period of 14 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 311. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's clean and surfable. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off breeze. The same pattern holds for Wednesday the 26th, with a morning of clean 2ft SSE swell and a period of 13 seconds, and the afternoon turning glassy with a 2ft SSE swell pushing a very long 16-second period. The energy jumps to 386 on that glassy session, so there's a bit of grunt there, but it's small. The long period will make for some nice, lined-up waves, but it might be a bit tricky to catch on a beach break because it could break too straight.
The pick of the whole forecast, the standout, is Thursday the 27th of August. We've got a solid morning session with glassy conditions and a 3ft SSE swell at 14 seconds. The energy is a solid 432. By the afternoon, it's even better – clean with a 4ft SE swell, period at 14 seconds, and the energy cranks up to 618. This is the best combination of size, clean conditions, and power we'll see. For a beginner break like this, 4ft is a nice, manageable size.
After that, the surf drops away again. Friday the 28th has a clean 3ft swell but the wind picks up, and by the weekend of the 29th and 30th, we're back to tiny, energy-less dribble. The wind is strong and offshore, but there's nothing to ride. There's a significant gap from the 1st of September through to the 3rd of September, with practically nothing on offer. Then, on Thursday the 3rd, we get a 5ft SSE swell, but it's short period at 6 seconds, and while it's glassy in the morning, the energy is moderate at 177. The 4th of September brings a bigger 4ft swell from the ESE, but it's a short period of 7 seconds and the wind is a strong offshore, which keeps it manageable. The energy is up to 425, but it's described as marginal. It's a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but the short period means it'll be a bit messy and fat.
So, if you're keen, your best bet is to be on the water on Thursday the 27th of August. Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th are solid backup options for a clean, small-wave session. After that, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
