The Lowdown
Alright folks, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the surf outlook for Praia de Camburi over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty bleak stretch overall. The next week and a half is mostly a write-off with very little decent surf on offer, and even when a bit of swell shows up, the conditions just aren’t cooperating.
The water temperature at Praia de Camburi is sitting around 73°F, which is just about normal for this time of year – nothing wild there.
The biggest gap is right at the start. There’s nothing worth talking about for the first several days. The swell is tiny, and the wind is often onshore or cross-off with too much speed. Even when the wind goes offshore, the waves are barely there.
Thursday the 27th of August is the first real glimmer. You’ll see a south-east swell around 4 ft, with a period of 14 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell coming through. The combined energy is moderate at 639, and the wind turns glassy in the morning, turning cross-off in the afternoon. That’s the cleanest day of the entire outlook. The swell direction from the south-east isn’t the optimum south for this sheltered spot, but with the size and the glassy conditions, it’s the best you’re going to get. Expect it to be a bit inconsistent, but when the sets come, they’ll have juice.
After that, it drops off again. Friday the 28th has some clean offshore winds but the swell drops to 3 ft and the energy is way down. The rest of the month is just small, weak, and mostly wind-affected. There’s a brief pulse on the 2nd of September with a small east swell and glassy conditions, but it’s only 3 ft and short period, so nothing to get excited about.
Then on the 3rd of September, there’s a bit more size – 5 ft from the south, but it’s short period (6 seconds) and the wind is cross-off, so the shape will be average. It’s more of a messy, lumpy wave than a clean one. The 4th of September has a cleaner south-east swell, 4 ft with a 10-second period, and glassy conditions in the morning – that’s your second-best option, but it’s still a long way out.
Honestly, if you’re keen, your best bet is to aim for Thursday the 27th of August. Get there early for the glassy conditions and a bit of south-east groundswell. Everything else is small, inconsistent, or blown out.
This is Rusty, signing off.
