The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Praia de Camburi.
First thing to say, we’ve got a bit of a wait for the real goods. The surf kicks off right away on Wednesday morning, August 26th, but it’s very small. The water is sitting at 71°, which is a bit colder than we’d expect for this time of year, so you’ll want a decent spring suit.
The real standout of the whole run is Wednesday morning, August 26th, and Thursday morning, August 27th. We’ve got a 4ft SSE groundswell pumping in on Thursday with a long 16-second period, and the combined energy is solid at 824. That’s moderate wave energy that’ll feel powerful. The wind is glassy, dead calm, which is a dream. That’s going to be the cleanest, most fun surf of the fortnight. Wednesday afternoon also looks good with clean conditions and a 4ft SSE swell (energy 643), so that’s a great warm-up.
Friday the 28th drops off a bit, with 3ft SSE swell in the morning. It’s clean, but not amazing. Then the weekend hits a wall. From Saturday morning, August 29th, all the way through to Tuesday, September 1st, the swell collapses. We’re talking 0.3ft to 1ft, and mostly just clean but flat. That’s a solid four-day gap with nothing worth paddling for.
We get a tiny pulse on Wednesday, September 2nd, but the wind is onshore and strong, and the period is a short 8 seconds. It’s messy. The next couple of days are similar, small and choppy.
The second week picks up a tiny bit on Friday, September 4th, with a 3ft easterly swell and offshore wind in the morning. It’s surfable, but the period is still short at 8 seconds. The energy is 180. It’s not the standout, but it’s a chance to get wet.
The last real flicker of hope is on Monday, September 7th, with a 3ft E swell and glassy conditions in the morning. That’s clean, but weak. After that, we’re back to tiny, clean but flat conditions through to September 10th.
So, to sum it up: the best surf is on Thursday, August 27th morning. Get out there. Everything else is a wait for the next pulse.
