The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Praia de Camburi. The next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag – we’ve got a small window of clean, fun waves early on, but then it goes quiet for a long stretch before a possible late pulse of energy shows up.

The action kicks off on Wednesday, 15 July, but honestly, it’s not a great start. Wednesday morning is a write-off with poor surf conditions, and the afternoon is only marginal. There’s some SE swell around 5ft with a moderate period of 11 seconds, but the cross-shore wind messes it up.

Things turn around on Thursday, 16 July. This is the standout window. We’ve got clean, offshore winds from the NNE in the morning, and the swell is a solid 5ft from the SE with that 11-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 476, and the waves are expected to be good. The afternoon stays clean with a gentle offshore breeze from the NE. This is your best bet for a proper session.

Friday, 17 July, is still surfable but the quality drops. The swell drops a touch to 4ft, and the wind is a bit messy, though it goes offshore in the afternoon. The energy is moderate (314). It’s ordinary, but you could still get a few.

From Saturday, 18 July, through to Monday, 21 July, the swell hangs around the 3ft to 4ft range, but it’s a mix of short-period wind swell from the east. The waves are there, but they’re just ordinary. The offshore winds in the afternoon keep things clean, but the energy is dropping off fast. By Monday afternoon, it’s back to poor conditions.

Then comes a big gap. From Tuesday, 22 July, all the way through to Monday, 28 July, the surf is basically a no-go. There’s no significant swell to speak of, just tiny scraps and poor conditions. The energy levels are mostly in the double digits or low triple digits, and the wind is often onshore or too strong. You’re looking at over a week with nothing worthwhile.

There’s a flicker of life on Tuesday, 28 July, in the afternoon. The swell bumps up to 5ft from the SE, but it’s a short period of 7 seconds. The wind goes glassy, so the surface will be clean, but the waves themselves will be weak and crumbly. The energy is moderate (257). It’s not great, but it’s the first sign of something.

Wednesday, 29 July, is similar. The swell holds at 5ft, period is still short at 7 to 8 seconds. The morning is glassy, and the afternoon brings a moderate offshore breeze, so it’s clean. Again, the waves are there, but they’ll lack punch.

The real late interest is on Thursday, 30 July. The swell jumps to 6ft from the ESE with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 733 – that’s a strong pulse. The morning winds are cross-offshore, so it’ll be a bit lumpy, but the size is there. This is a promising option for the end of the window, but it’s a week and a half away, so treat it as a hopeful long-range call. At 6ft, it’s getting a bit too big for beginners.

Rusty.
