The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me break down what we’ve got coming up for the next couple of weeks at Praia de Camburi. I gotta be straight with you from the get-go – it’s looking pretty flat and quiet for a long stretch. We’ve got a big gap starting now, running through the end of July and into the very start of August. That’s a solid week or more with next to nothing worth paddling out for.
The first glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Sunday, 2nd August. That morning we see a small pulse of groundswell building from the SE with a period of 14 seconds. That’s a good sign for shape and energy, but the swell height is only 2ft. It’s glassy in the morning, so it’ll be clean. This is a long period groundswell, so it might break a bit straight on this beach setup, but it’s the best we’ve seen.
The standout, without a doubt, is the afternoon of Sunday, 2nd August. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the SSE, still that long 14-second period, and the wave energy is pumping. Conditions are clean with a gentle cross-offshore breeze. The water temp is running about normal for this time of year at 73°F. For a beach break, that long period groundswell will mean long lulls and then some nice, defined sets. This is the call of the whole forecast window.
The rest of the first week of August is just small, ordinary stuff. Monday and Tuesday mornings will be glassy but tiny. By Wednesday the 5th, we get a bigger, but shorter-period swell hitting 5ft from the E with a period of only 7 seconds. That’s a lot of whitewater and bumpy energy, but with that short period, it’ll be a bit of a mess and probably only for the experienced crew. It’s not the clean, lined-up wave we want. So, if you can only choose one session, make it the afternoon of Sunday, 2nd August at Praia de Camburi.
Rusty.
