The Lowdown

Right, cobber, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we're working with for Praia de Camburi. I'm not gonna lie to ya, the next couple of weeks are a real mixed bag. We've got a few days of proper frustration before we finally see a pulse or two of genuine potential.

The action really starts picking up around Thursday the 10th. For the next week though, from now until then, it's pretty much a write-off. We're dealing with tiny, weak waves with combined energy barely getting out of double digits for days, like Friday the 5th only managing a measly 31 to 93. The swell's around 2ft to 3ft with short, weak 8-second periods. There are some glassy conditions here and there, like on the Saturday morning, which is a tease, but you're honestly better off doing something else. Even when the offshore wind comes in on the Friday afternoon with a fresh 19 mph NE breeze, the 2ft swell is just too small to bother with. Then we get a few days of choppy, onshore slop from the 7th to the 8th, with that combined energy climbing but the period dropping to a terrible 6 seconds. It's gonna be a messy, frustrating week.

Finally, Thursday the 10th is where we see the first real window of opportunity. The Thursday morning shows a great combo: moderate offshore wind from the NE at 12 mph pushing into a 4ft SE swell, and with a combined energy reading of 414, there's some proper grunt behind it. This is our first real standout. The wind will be cleaning it up nicely. Later that day the energy drops a bit and the period shortens, but that morning session is the pick of the first week, no question.

The next real highlight comes much later, on Thursday the 17th of September. The Thursday morning shows a 6ft S swell, which is getting into the size where it's worth checking for the more experienced crew, with a combined energy of 600. It's a shorter 7-second period, so it's not the most powerful groundswell, but with a clean, gentle cross-off breeze from the N at 9 mph, the conditions should make it surfable. It's a promising but less certain long-range call. The next day, Friday the 18th, also has a 6ft SE swell with a cross-off breeze to follow up.

The water temp is running about average for this time of year, so nothing to write home about, just standard autumn/spring gear.

So, to wrap it up: grit your teeth through this week. The real action is Thursday the 10th for a proper, clean surf under offshore winds, and then keep an eye on Thursday the 17th of September for a bit more size and punch.

Rusty.
