The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are serving up for Praia de Camburi.

Right off the bat, we’ve got a mixed bag. The pattern starts with some decent, punchy stuff on Wednesday the 9th of September, but then it fades hard. After that first session, there’s a real dry spell – from Thursday the 10th all the way through to Sunday the 13th, the ocean just goes flat and messy. Nothing worth paddling out for. Then we get a little flicker of hope on Monday the 14th, but it’s another gap until the following week where things get surfable again but nothing special.

The best window we’ve got is that Wednesday morning, the 9th. The swell is coming from the east at 6ft, with a short period of 7 seconds. It’s a bit of a windswell, so it’s gonna be a bit crumbly, but the wind is a gentle offshore from the NNE, keeping it clean. The combined swell energy is 521, which is moderate, so there’s some push. For a beginner-friendly spot, this is about as good as it gets. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing to worry about there. Just keep in mind that crowds are possible here, so you might not have it all to yourself.

The other standout is Monday the 14th. The morning looks clean, with a 5ft east-southeast swell and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is a bit higher at 615, so it’s got some grunt. The afternoon gets even better – the wind drops to glassy, and the swell is still 5ft from the east-southeast. That’s a real treat for a sheltered spot like this. It’s not the biggest, but it’ll be clean and fun.

For the rest of the second week, say from the 18th onwards, the swell drops off into the knee-to-waist high range. The wind is offshore or clean, but the waves are weak and small. By the 20th of September, it’s barely a ripple.

So, bottom line: hit it Wednesday morning the 9th for the best combo of size and clean conditions, or Monday the 14th for the glassy afternoon session. The rest of the time, you’re better off waiting for the next swell.

Rusty.
