The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Praia de Camburi.
Right off the bat, looking ahead over the next two-plus weeks, there isn’t much to get excited about. For a stretch from now until the 13th, the surf is flat or very weak, and onshore winds ruin what little is there. We’re looking at a real dry spell of about three days where you wouldn’t want to bother paddling out.
For the first usable window, keep an eye on Monday the 14th. We start seeing some knee to waist-high new energy pushing in from the ESE at about 4ft, but the period is short at 8 seconds – not a lot of push behind it. Winds are light cross-offshore in the morning and turning offshore by the afternoon. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the first surfable option. The combined swell energy creeps up into moderate territory (251), so there’s something there, but it’s ordinary.
The real standout, and the only time I’d say "get in the water," looks to be Saturday the 19th – first thing in the morning. That brings our best chance with a clean 6ft swell from the east, 7 second period – still short period but with moderate energy (548). More importantly, it’s glassy. No wind at all. That’s about as good as it gets for a protected beginner spot like this. The water temp is pretty average for the time of year, so don't stress about a wetsuit.
This spot is sheltered and fairly consistent when there’s swell, but most of the time it’s going to be small. For beginners, anything over 5ft starts getting pushy, and on the 19th morning it’s pushing 6ft, so that’s still manageable if you've got a few sessions under your belt. Crowds are possible here sometimes, but for that early glassy session, you might get it to yourself.
After that, the second week trails off again. There's a small bump on the 23rd with a longer 12-second period, but the swell direction and wind aren't ideal, so it's not a standout. Most days after the 20th are clean but weak, with the swell energy dropping right off.
So, in short – don’t hold your breath until the 14th, and pencil in the 19th morning as your best bet. After that, it’s a waiting game.
