The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. I've got the 16-day forecast for Praia de Camburi, and I won't sugarcoat it: it's a rough stretch. This break is sheltered and needs south swell, but we're mostly seeing east and southeast pulses that don't fit it well. Add in some lousy wind, and we're looking at a lot of flat or junk days.
Starting on Tuesday the 1st, the morning looks clean, but that's a 1ft east swell with a short 8-second period and a 30 km/h north cross-offshore wind. The combined energy is a weak 230, so it's not worth the walk. That afternoon, the swell drops to 0.3ft.
Wednesday the 2nd and Thursday the 3rd are onshore and poor. Then on Friday the 4th, there's a little hope. The morning serves up a clean 3ft swell from the SSE with a nice 12-second period – that's a long-period groundswell with moderate energy (334). The wind is cross-offshore from the north at 25 km/h, so the surface will be clean. But remember, this is a beach break, and that long period will make the waves fat and close out. Still, it's the best looking window in this whole outlook. The afternoon stays clean but the swell fades.
From Saturday the 5th right through to Thursday the 11th, it's a desert of small, onshore, or howling side-shore winds. On Monday the 7th, a 6ft pulse from the SSE comes in, but it's a short-period windswell with a 20 km/h cross-onshore breeze. That's just a choppy mess. For a beginner spot like this, that setup screams kite-surfing, not paddling.
There's one more interesting day way out. On the morning of Monday the 14th, the wind goes glassy, and we have a 2ft swell from the SSE with a very long 14-second period. The energy is moderate at 376. It'll be dead flat clean, but those super-long-period lines are going to be slow and straight at this beach. It's a tranquil, tiny-wave session for the zen surfer, but not a standout performance.
So, the pick of a bad bunch is the morning of Friday the 4th – it's the most rideable combo we get. The morning of Monday the 14th is a beautiful wait for almost nothing. For the rest, leave your board at home. This kind of blank run happens here sometimes. Forecasts can flip, but right now it's looking grim.
Rusty.
