The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. It’s gonna be a tough wait for anything decent. The first week and a half is a real struggle with tiny, weak swell and a lot of poor conditions. We’ve got a solid run of days with no real surf to speak of, so don’t bother paddling out until the second weekend.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, there’s really only one standout that’s worth getting excited about. The rest is mostly ordinary, small, or blown out. The best bet arrives on the 22nd of August.
Let’s start with the early days. From Wednesday the 12th through to the 20th, it’s grim. The swell hovers around 3 ft to 5 ft, but the energy is weak to moderate (readings between 118 and 507). The wind is all over the place, and the morning of the 15th and the 16th have some clean windows, but the waves are just too small and messy to paddle for. The 17th and 18th see a bump in swell to 5 ft and 5 ft from the east, but with a short period of 7 seconds, it’s just fat, weak, and not worth the paddle. The 19th and 20th are even smaller.
The first real glimmer comes on Saturday the 22nd of August. The afternoon at Praia de Camburi has a nice 4 ft swell from the southeast, a period of 14 seconds, and a gentle cross-off breeze from the ESE. This is the standout. The combined energy is moderate (456), and you’ll get some clean, lined-up waves. The crowds are “sometimes” there, so don’t expect to have it to yourself, but the quality will be worth it. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so a steamer might be a bit much, but a spring suit will be fine.
The days after that, from the 23rd into the 27th, we’re back to tiny, weak swell (0.7 ft to 3 ft) with very low energy (8 to 259). The 27th has a little pulse of 2 ft from the SE with a 12-second period, but it’s just ordinary. Not worth wetting the suit.
So, to wrap it up: you’ve got a long, dry spell until the 22nd of August. That Saturday afternoon at Praia de Camburi is your best shot by a long shot. Get on it.
Rusty.
