The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s on the table for Praia de Camburi over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, it’s a slow start. Through most of the first week, we’ve got small, weak, short-period windswell with cross-off breezes – surfable for a beginner on a foamie maybe, but nothing that’ll get the heart pumping. The combined wave energy hangs around the low 100s until Wednesday the 5th, when it bumps up a bit (244), but that comes with a 30 km/h offshore that makes the surface clean but the conditions messy. Honestly, the first proper green light doesn’t show up until Wednesday morning the 12th.
That morning, the 12th of August, we finally get a pulse. Swell height hits 5 ft from the south at 11 seconds – solid period, proper groundswell energy. The combined energy jumps right up to 739, which is a strong push. With a light northerly cross-off breeze, it’ll be clean. This is a legitimate standout for the period, but keep in mind: 5 ft is getting punchy for beginners. The break is sheltered and fairly consistent, but if you’re newer, bring a soft-top and know your limits. Crowds are sometimes a thing here.
The real standout, the one I’m looking at hardest, is Saturday morning the 15th of August. Swell from the SSE at 6 ft, 12-second period – that’s proper juice. Combined energy hits 1235, which is strong. Early morning with a light ESE cross-off breeze at 15 km/h, it’s going to be clean. This is the pick of the bunch – big enough for a proper session, but under the 8 ft expert line, so it’s still accessible to strong intermediates too.
Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th keep the run going with 6–6 ft easterly swells, but the period drops to 8 seconds and winds shift a bit. Still fun, still clean, but not the top-shelf quality of the Saturday morning.
Water temp is sitting at 73°, which is basically normal for the time of year – no drama there.
Overall, it’s a quiet start, then a very promising run from the 12th through the 17th. The 15th morning is the one to point the car at.
Rusty.
