Praia de Camburi Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here, and I’ve got the forecast dialed in for the next couple of weeks. It’s a lean stretch ahead, so let’s be straight with each other.

The opening of this window is a bit of a dud. From the first few days, we’re looking at weak, messy conditions that really won’t get the stoke going. The combined swell energy is low (118) and that cross-onshore wind is just making a mess of things. We’ve got a long gap here with no real reason to paddle out through the weekend.

Praia de Camburi is your only real option on the table, and it’s a bit of a sheltered setup, so it needs a proper alignment to fire. The first real chance we get is on Wednesday the 12th of August, but even then, it’s a marginal call. Wednesday morning shows a light cross-onshore wind with a bit of small wind ripple, the energy is picking up but still only moderate (443). By Wednesday afternoon, the wind backs off, going cross-offshore, and we get some clean conditions on a 3ft SSE swell with a period of 12 seconds. It’s surfable, but it’s ordinary—nothing to write home about.

Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th stay similar: clean faces but small. The offshore winds on Friday afternoon are actually clean, with a moderate breeze (19 mph) out of the northeast, but the swell is still just 2ft from the SSE. The energy sits around the 236 mark. It’s quiet, it’s tidy, but it’s not packing much punch.

Saturday the 15th is more of the same—clean, but you’re hunting for waist-high runners.

Sunrise on Sunday the 16th shows a little flicker of life with a light breeze and small 2ft SSE swell, period around 12 seconds. It’s clean enough for a longboard or a foiler. The energy is weak (169). It’s not going to make anyone’s year.

The real standout happens way down the line. On Friday the 21st of August, that’s when the ocean remembers how to work. The morning delivers a 3ft SSE swell with a very long period of 17 seconds (653). That is groundswell, proper long-period energy. For a sheltered spot like Praia de Camburi, that longer gap between sets and the raw energy means you’re going to get some clean lines peeling down the beach. The wind is light and cross-offshore, making for clean conditions. This is the best-looking session of the entire 16 days, though being that far out, it’s promising but not locked in. The swell direction from the SSE matches up nicely for this break.

Later that afternoon on the 21st, it’s still looking good, with offshore wind from the NE (22 mph) cleaning things up, though that fresh breeze might chop up the surface a little. Still, with 3ft and a 16-second period (463), the quality is there for the crew that can time the sets.

After that, the window fades. We slip back into smaller, weaker, and cross-onshore wind patterns through the final days of the run. Nothing else stands out as worth planning around.

So, if you want to get wet, the best window is that Friday the 21st of August. Get up early for the cleanest conditions before the afternoon breeze picks up. For the rest of the time, you’re looking at clean but small dribblers. That’s the long and short of it for now.
