The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what we’ve got on offer for our stretch of coast, just over at Praia de Camburi.

Straight off the bat, I gotta be honest with you—this is a tough run of days ahead. The first part of the outlook is pretty grim. We’re looking at a long dry spell with next to no surf on the cards. From Friday 28 August right through to the end of August and into the first couple of days of September, the swell is tiny—like 0.3ft to 1ft—and even though the wind is clean from the north or northeast, there’s just nothing to ride. You’d be wasting your time until the 4th of September.

Thursday 3 September sees a bit of a spike in energy with a 5ft south swell, but the wind is onshore and the period is a short, weak 6 to 7 seconds. Combined energy hits 298 on Wednesday afternoon, but the conditions are lumpy and rainy. Not worth paddling out.

Now, here’s where it gets a little interesting. On Friday 4 September, we finally get a sniff of something rideable. The swell drops to 2ft coming from the southeast with a 9-second period, and the wind turns light and offshore from the east-northeast in the afternoon. The combined energy is sitting at 126—moderate energy. It’s clean, but the waves are small and ordinary. You won’t be getting barrels, but it’s a start.

The standout of the whole forecast is the morning of Tuesday 8 September. We’ve got a 4ft swell from the south-southeast with a beautiful 14-second period—that’s proper groundswell, long lines. The wind is light and offshore from the north-northeast, so the surface will be glassy. Combined energy is pumping at 522, which is strong. This is the best on offer, and for Praia de Camburi (Vitória), that south-southeast direction with clean offshore winds will be worth the wait. The water temp is around 71°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year—about 2°F below the long-term average, so you might want a springsuit or a 3/2.

After that, the 11th and 12th of September hold some decent windows too. Friday 11 September afternoon shows a 4ft south-east swell with a 15-second period and light cross-offshore winds from the east-southeast. Energy is 626. That’s solid. Saturday 12 September morning looks clean again with a 3ft south-east swell and a 14-second period, combined energy of 424. The wind is light cross-off from the east-northeast. Good conditions, but keep an eye on that heavy rain forecast for the afternoon.

Overall, the first week is a write-off. Don’t bother until the 4th, and even then it’s small. The real date to circle is Tuesday 8 September for the best combination of size, period, and glassy offshore wind. Saturday 12 September morning is another one to pencil in. Crowds can show up here sometimes, so get there early on those days.

Stay patient, stay stoked.

Rusty.
