The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the coming weeks at Praia de Camburi. I gotta be straight with you: it's a pretty quiet run overall, especially for a spot that's sheltered from the south swell. We're looking at a long stretch of small, weak surf before a bit of life shows up later on.
The first week or so is nothing to write home about. From Friday the 11th right through to the middle of the following week, we've got tiny waves – mostly below 3 feet – coming from the SSE or ESE. The energy is low, around the 100 to 200 mark, and while we get some clean, offshore mornings, there's just no push. You'll be sitting there on your board for ages. The south-westerly winds on the 13th make things choppy and unpleasant.
Now, there is a glimmer of hope in the second week. Monday the 18th afternoon sees the swell start to pick up properly. We're talking about 6 feet from the ESE by the afternoon, and the energy jumps to a solid 602 – that's moderate to strong energy, the most we'll see this whole period. Tuesday the 19th morning follows up with 5 feet and clean, light cross-offshore winds. This is the best window. Keep in mind, the period is short at 7 seconds, so it won't be that long-range groundswell, but it'll be punchy and fun for a beach break setup. For the beginner crew, 5 feet and above is getting a bit spicy, so tread carefully if you're new to this.
After that little spike, it fades back to small, ordinary surf for the rest of the run. The 22nd gives a small glassy morning, but the swell is tiny again.
So, if you're keen, pencil in Monday the 18th afternoon and Tuesday the 19th morning. That's your two standout windows. The rest of the time? Keep your board waxed and your eyes on the forecast – we might get lucky, but it's looking like a dry spell for the most part.
Rusty.
