The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Praia de Camburi has cookin’ for us over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, it’s a tough stretch. We're looking at a real dry spell to kick things off, with hardly a ripple worth paddling for. The water temp is sitting at a mild 72°, which is about normal for this time of year, nothing to write home about.

Right from the start, from Saturday afternoon the 29th through to Thursday the 3rd of September, it’s a write-off. We're talking tiny, weak swell with energy readings barely hitting double digits most of the time, and the commentary is just "poor surf conditions" every time. It’s flat, it’s frustrating. Even when the wind goes offshore, there's just nothing to work with.

We finally get a little pulse on Friday the 4th. It's not much, but it’s something. The morning sees a 4ft SE swell with a gentle cross-offshore breeze, making for clean conditions. The combined energy climbs to a moderate 289, and while the notes say “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” at this point we'll take it. That afternoon the wind picks up to a fresh offshore, but the size drops back to 3ft.

Then on Sunday the 6th of September, the morning is a real tease. The wind goes glassy – dead calm – and there's a 4ft SSE swell. The energy is a moderate 167, and it's described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s clean, glassy, and worth a look for a sneaky dawn session, but the wave quality is nothing to get emotional about. That afternoon the wind swings onshore and it gets lumpy again.

Now, if you want the real standout, you gotta wait for the second week. Wednesday the 9th of September is the day. The morning starts with a clean 4ft SE swell, and the period is a very long 15 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is a solid 680, the strongest in the whole forecast. The wind is a light cross-offshore, and the wave comment says “expect good surf conditions.” This has the potential for some proper, clean lines. It’s not massive, so it’s good for a range of abilities, but that long period means it will be powerful and better for the more experienced. The afternoon holds up just as well with a moderate offshore breeze. This is your session. After that, the swell slowly fades and the conditions get a bit more ordinary again.

Overall, it’s a lean two weeks. Save your energy for that Wednesday the 9th.
