The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for your local stretch.

We’re kickin’ things off with a bit of a slow start, but there’s a fun little window mid-week that’s worth paddlin’ out for. The first week’s got some clean conditions, but the swell is pretty small. The real standout is Thursday, 27 August. That morning you’ve got a clean 5ft SSE groundswell with a 16-second period—that’s proper long-period energy, delivering some decent shape and power for a beach setup. The combined energy is a solid 909 (moderate), and it’s glassy in the morning, so you’ll be gettin’ some clean, lined-up waves. That afternoon, it goes dead calm with 4ft of the same swell direction, almost glassy. That’s your best chance for a proper session.

The water’s sittin’ at 70°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year—about 3° off, so it’s noticeably cooler than usual, but nothin’ shocking.

Tuesday, 25 August, is a bit of a tease. The morning’s glassy with 3ft of SSE swell, but the energy is weak (328), so it’s gonna be small and ordinary. The afternoon picks up a bit with a clean offshore wind, but still only 3ft. Wednesday, 26 August, has a similar story—light offshore in the morning, 3ft, and then a moderate offshore in the afternoon with 3ft and a 16-second period, which gets the energy up to 545. It’s surfable, but nothin’ to write home about.

From Friday, 28 August, onwards, the swell drops off hard. Friday morning’s already down to 3ft with a cross-offshore wind, and by Friday afternoon it’s a tiny 2ft with a strong offshore that’s gonna make it tough to paddle into. Saturday and Sunday are even worse—swell barely 1ft and then 0.3ft. The wind is fresh and strong, so it’s blown out and small. Monday, 31 August, through to Tuesday, 1 September, is flat—zero swell. There’s a dry spell for about 4 to 5 days here.

Then Wednesday, 2 September, we get a little bump of 3ft from the east, but the wind is cross-onshore and lumpy, so it’s not great. Thursday, 3 September, has a better afternoon: 4ft from the SE with a 12-second period, light cross-offshore wind, and clean conditions. That’s a decent option if you’re desperate, but it’s not a standout.

The rest of the outlook into early September stays small—3ft to 3ft, mostly clean, but ordinary. The swell direction is mostly SE, which is not the optimum for this spot; it’s sheltered from the south, so the waves won’t be as well-formed. The crowds are possible here, so you might have some company on the cleaner days.

Bottom line: Thursday, 27 August, is your best shot. Get out there for the morning glass-off or the dead-calm afternoon. After that, it’s a long wait for anything worthwhile.

Rusty.
