The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Praia de Camburi over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, it's a pretty flat and frustrating run for the most part. The first few days are a write-off, and we're looking at a real lack of any decent swell. Out of the entire 16 days, there are only a couple of windows that might get you wet, but you'll have to be very patient.

The first chance we see is on Tuesday, 8th September. The morning still has that messy cross-onshore wind, but by the afternoon, the breeze swings to a light cross-offshore from the ENE at 6 mph. That cleans things right up. The swell is a pretty weak 3 ft from the E, with a short period of 7 seconds and a combined energy of only 181. It's surfable, but very ordinary. Not a standout, just a chance to get the board wet.

Wednesday, 9th September morning is almost a carbon copy. A clean 4 ft wave from the ESE, period still short at 7 seconds, and a light cross-offshore wind from the NNE. The energy is weak at 220. Again, it's okay, but nothing to drive for.

The next real glimmer, and the best of a bad bunch, comes on Tuesday, 15th September. The morning session sees a 4 ft swell from the SE with a period of 11 seconds – that's a proper groundswell with a bit more push. The combined energy is moderate at 382. With a light cross-offshore breeze from the N at 9 mph, the conditions will be clean. This is about as good as it gets for this stretch, but it's still just "surfable."

Then, on Wednesday, 16th September, we have a moment of magic that's almost cruel. The morning is glassy – a 3 mph ENE breeze, creating a perfect surface. The swell is a smaller 3 ft from the SE at 10 seconds, with moderate energy (205). For a sheltered spot, that glassy morning could be a real treat, but it's a small wave.

The run-up to the 18th sees a bump in size, with a 6 ft ESE swell on Friday morning, but the period is short (7 seconds) and the wind is a moderate cross-offshore. The energy is moderate (336), but it's not blowing cleanly enough to make it a true standout.

To be honest, the whole 16-day window is a flat spell. There's no big swell, no epic conditions. The best you can hope for is a clean, small wave on the 15th or that glassy 16th morning. For a beginner, the 3 ft to 4 ft days are fine, but the 5 ft+ stuff on the 7th and 18th is going to be a messy, blown-out challenge for anyone. This area is just not firing.

Stay patient, the forecasts can change, but for now, it's a lean spell.

Rusty.
