Table - best surf conditions forecast for Prainha over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee, let's have a look at what's happening at Prainha over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, we're looking at a pretty quiet stretch here for the most part. The water is sitting at 64°, which is about 1° cooler than what we'd normally expect for this time of year, so pretty average – nothing to complain about.
The first bit of surf we can really talk about is a small window on Sunday the 12th. We've got some chest-high swell sneaking in, around 3 ft from the ESE, and the wind is swinging offshore from the SW. That's a light breeze, so it should be pretty clean out there. The swell energy is moderate (201), and that 12-second period from the ESE means it's got a bit of shape to it. It's not going to be a world-beater, but if you're an experienced surfer and you want a few smooth ones, this is your best early call. Keep in mind, this spot is very consistent, so there's usually something to work with.
Now, the real standout, the one I'm getting a little excited about, is Thursday the 16th. The morning session is looking like pure magic. We're getting a clean 4 ft swell from the ESE with a solid 12-second period, and the wind is dead glassy from the W, just a slight air. It's going to be like a lake out there. The combined swell energy is solid at (374) – that's some proper push. If you've got a day off, you be in the water for dawn patrol. This is the best of the bunch by a mile.
The next morning, Friday the 17th, is a good follow-up. The swell drops a touch to 3 ft, but it's still from the ESE with that nice 12-second pulse, and once again, we're looking at glassy conditions from the WSW in the morning. Another morning of clean, fun waves for the experienced crew.
Past that, the surf gets a bit smaller and the period drops off. Around Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th, we're looking at waist-high, short-period windswell from the E. It's glassy in the mornings, so it's surfable but very ordinary. You'll get a few little grovelers.
The second week – that's from around the 20th onwards – the outlook gets pretty grim. There's some really small, weak swell with periods of only 8 seconds and very poor energy readings (often under 150). The wind also starts to get messy, with some stronger cross-shore breezes and even some rain mixed in. Honestly, from the Monday the 20th onward, there's nothing to get excited about. It's a long stretch of small, weak, and choppy conditions. If you're a beginner, some of those mornings with glassy conditions and waves under 3 ft might be okay for a soft-top paddle, but for a proper surf, it's a no-go.
For a few days around the 23rd and 24th, we get some tiny waves with a bit of offshore wind, but they're so small (2-2 ft) it's barely worth suiting up. The energy is gone (below 100), and we're looking at weak, short-period stuff.
So, to sum it up: your prime window is Sunday the 12th for a small warm-up, but the absolute highlight is Thursday the 16th morning. Get it while it's good, because after that, the surf goes to sleep for a long while.
Rusty.
