The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the local stretch.
There's a bit of a flat spell ahead, but we've got a few windows of clean, fun waves if you time it right. The first surf worth mentioning kicks off Wednesday morning, July 15th. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a bit nippier than usual for this time of year, so a good wetsuit is the call.
For the best bet in the near term, look no further than Prainha on Wednesday morning, July 15th. Glassy conditions with a light NW breeze at 3 mph, and an ESE swell of 3 ft churning in with a moderate 10-second period and good energy (204). It's an exposed spot, so it'll be catching that energy. With the wind being glassy, the waves are going to be clean and lined up. The water's a bit colder than normal, but that's a small price to pay for the conditions on offer. Just keep in mind it's an advanced spot and can get crowded sometimes, so expect some company.
Thursday morning, July 16th, is also a solid shout. The wind goes offshore from the WSW at 3 mph, cleaning up a 3 ft, 10-second easterly swell (212 energy). That's a proper clean session.
Friday morning, July 17th, we see the swell period drop to 8 seconds. The waves will be there at 3 ft, and the morning is glassy again, but the quality is ordinary. The surf will be a bit weak and crumbly, not the same punch as the previous days.
From Saturday the 18th through to Monday the 27th, the forecast gets pretty ordinary. Most mornings are glassy, but the swell is small and weak, with energy readings dropping well below 100 at times. There are a few moments of surfable but very ordinary waves, with the best being the glassy mornings of Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th, offering 3 ft easterly swell. It's not going to be great, but if you're desperate, you could get a few small ones.
Then, on the afternoon of Monday, July 27th, things get interesting. We get a jump in the swell to 6 ft from the SSE, with a short 7-second period. The wind is cross-offshore from the SSW at 9 mph, and the energy jumps to a strong 540. The model says "expect very good surf conditions." This is a bigger, punchy, short-period swell that will be powerful. Given the size, this is only for experienced surfers. The wind is clean, so it should be a fun, powerful session for the crew that can handle it. This is the standout event of the whole 16-day window.
The final morning worth looking at is Thursday, July 30th. The wind goes glassy from the SW with a 4 ft, 8-second easterly swell and moderate energy (248). That's a solid, clean morning session to wrap things up.
So, to sum it up: the next few days are the cleanest, with Wednesday and Thursday mornings being the pick. After a long flat period, the afternoon of Monday, July 27th, offers a burst of powerful, clean swell for the experts. But don't hold your breath for much else.
Rusty signing off.
