Table - best surf conditions forecast for Prainha over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your board – let's talk about what's happening at Prainha.
Look, it's a mixed bag here. We've got a spot that gets plenty of swell but for the next 16 days, the quality just isn't there for very much standout surfing. Prainha is a powerful, exposed break for advanced surfers only, but most of this run has us chasing scraps. The water temp is around 64°, which is pretty standard for this time of year – nothing crazy going on there.
The week kicks off on Thursday, July 9th with tiny 0.5m (2ft) surf from the ESE. The morning is your only chance – glassy conditions and light WNW winds at 3 mph. The combined energy is weak at just (73), but with a very long 11-second period, it'll have some shape. Still, it's small and ordinary. That afternoon goes to mush with a cross-onshore chop, so don't bother.
Friday, July 10th morning offers a glimmer: 0.4m (1ft) of super-long period ESE swell (14 seconds), with WSW offshore winds at 3 mph. That's clean, but the energy is still weak at (107). It's surfable but you'll be working for it.
Then we hit a run of poor conditions straight through until Sunday, July 12th. A few mornings might be clean, like Sunday the 12th with cross-offshore winds, but the swell stays under 1.0m (3ft) and the combined energy lingers in the low hundreds. Just not worth paddling out.
Monday, July 13th morning brings our first real bump – 1.5m (5ft) from the SSE. But the period is a short 8 seconds, and it's cross-shore with a slight side-chop. Energy climbs to moderate (508), but it's messy. That same afternoon drops to 1.0m (3ft), and the quality is poor again. Not the day to get excited.
The whole second week from around July 14th through July 24th looks like a slow grind. Most days offer tiny waves around 0.6m (2ft) to 1.0m (3ft), mostly from the east. The periods are short, between 7 and 9 seconds, so it's mostly windswell with no power. A few mornings have glassy conditions (July 16th and July 19th with zero wind, July 22nd with calm) but with energy barely breaking 100, you're just floating around out there. The best window in that stretch might be Saturday morning, July 18th – glassy with 1.0m (3ft) east swell. It's small, but under a glassy surface it could be fun for a loner session.
The pattern continues right to the end. Thursday, July 23rd morning offers 1.0m (3ft) E swell with a cross-offshore breeze and moderate energy (142) – that's probably the cleanest of the later options. But Friday, July 24th morning gets stronger southerly winds at 16 mph and a short 7-second SE swell. The energy jumps to (195) but that onshore punch is going to make it choppy and ugly.
For an exposed break like this, the setup here is honestly more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer for most of this outlook. The consistent swell energy, even if small, with those side-shore winds, would suit a kite. For us wave riders, there's just no standout day. If you're desperate, the Thursday morning (July 9th) glassy session on that long period swell is the most "surfable" moment, but I wouldn't call it a standout.
Don't write the whole run off – forecasts change. But for now, Prainha is a quiet stretch.
