Table - best surf conditions forecast for Prainha over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about Prainha.
First off, the water temp is sitting at 65°, which is about 1° cooler than average for this time of year – nothing wild, just a touch of that winter chill. Overall, this forecast is a slow burner for Prainha. There’s nothing big or powerful on the cards, but a few windows open up with clean conditions for the patient surfer.
The early part of the run, starting Tuesday the 7th, is pretty average. Tuesday morning has a 3ft SE swell with a 10-second period and a moderate cross-off breeze, but the combined energy is only moderate at 218, and the call is marginal. Tuesday afternoon gets worse with a cross-on.
Wednesday the 8th morning is where it gets interesting. The swell drops to 2ft from the ESE, but the wind goes completely *glassy* with a WSW at 3 mph. That’s a major positive. The wave energy is low at 82, so it’s not gonna be pumping, but it’ll be clean as a whistle. This is a sneak-out session for a longboard or a fish.
Thursday the 9th morning also looks clean with a light offshore W wind at 3 mph, but the swell is tiny at 2ft and the energy is weak at 71. Friday the 10th morning is glassy again, but the swell is only 1ft.
Now, the standout in the whole run has to be Saturday the 11th morning at Prainha. We’ve got a 3ft ESE swell with a 13-second period – that longer period has some real push behind it, and the combined energy climbs to a solid moderate 279. The wind is a light cross-off from the WNW at 6 mph, keeping it clean. The call is “expect good surf conditions,” which is the best rating we see. For a break this size, those chest-to-shoulder high sets with that period will offer up some proper shape. The crowds are listed as “sometimes,” so you might have a few friends out, but it won’t be a zoo. This is the session to circle.
Sunday the 12th morning is a similar vibe: 3ft ESE at 12 seconds, cross-off NW wind at 6 mph, and energy at 209. Another clean morning, though the rain might be spitting a bit.
After that, from Monday the 13th onwards, the swell drops off hard. The energy levels fall into the weak range (below 100), and the conditions get choppy or onshore. There’s a stretch of days from Monday the 13th through to Tuesday the 22nd where the best you can hope for is glassy mornings with tiny waves – a lot of days in that second week are just “poor surf conditions” or “surfable but ordinary.”
To be honest, for the entire second half of the run, from around the 13th onward, there’s nothing worth chasing. The wave energy is low, the swell is small, and the winds aren't setting up right. It’s a blank run of surf for over a week.
One tip: with those longer-period ESE swells on Saturday and Sunday, Prainha, as an exposed beach, might see the waves breaking a little straight. But with the light cross-off or offshore winds, it’ll still be fun for those who know the peak.
So, to wrap it up: the only true standout is Saturday morning the 11th. Sunday the 12th is a decent backup. For the rest, you're either surfing glassy knee-high rollers or sitting it out.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts. It’s not gone forever.
Rusty.
